Abstrak

Atmospheric weather and climate systems are governed by a complex interaction of physical and thermodynamic processes operating across different spatial and temporal scales. This article aims to examine the fundamental meteorological processes responsible for the formation of weather phenomena and their contribution to global climate dynamics. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature-based theoretical analysis of atmospheric processes. The discussion focuses on vertical atmospheric stratification, solar radiation and Earth's energy balance, air-mass formation and thermodynamic characteristics, general atmospheric circulation, synoptic pressure systems, atmospheric fronts, moisture dynamics, condensation, and precipitation mechanisms. The analysis demonstrates that weather and climate cannot be adequately understood as isolated atmospheric phenomena because they result from interconnected processes involving energy transfer, pressure gradients, atmospheric motion, moisture transformation, and interactions between different air masses. Solar radiation acts as the primary energy source that establishes spatial and temporal thermal gradients, while atmospheric circulation redistributes heat and moisture throughout the Earth system. Air-mass interactions, cyclones, anticyclones, frontal systems, and moisture processes subsequently regulate cloud formation, precipitation, and variations in weather conditions. Understanding these processes provides an important theoretical foundation for weather forecasting, climate modeling, disaster risk reduction, water-resource management, agriculture, aviation, and climate-change adaptation. The study concludes that an integrated understanding of atmospheric physics is essential for explaining variations in weather and climate and for improving the practical application of meteorological knowledge.
